Choosing a color for my car was not easy. I had a picture in mind of a cyan blue seen in the oceans and seas during my travels. I wanted a darker blue with a touch of green and I surfed the internet for original paint codes but nothing matched the color in my head. A close match was CSX4188 and the color in the description was "Metallic Teal" but it doesn't look like the Ford Teal. I contacted the Shelby registry and they have the color as Ford Pacific Blue. The car is neither of these colors.
Ron at Metal-Morphous and I had lots of discussions with my attempts to describe what I wanted. He told me this is one of his favorite parts of his job. Ron thought Porsche Venetian Blue Metallic, Ford Pacific Blue, and Ford Guardsman Blue would be good starting points. They were close but not the color I imagined. Ron was getting ready to make some samples based on colors my wife created on Pantone then I saw a color that was very close. Singer posted pictures of the Winston Commission in paint-to-sample Calanque de Sormiou, the client obviously had also been inspired by the color of the Mediterranean. I emailed Singer about the color and they called me back and graciously told me they couldn't release the paint code but that it was a tweaked known paint. Being a Singer, it had to be based on a Porsche color and that most likely was Venetian Blue Metallic or Petrol Blue Metaliic. Ron started mixing colors and came up with a close match to the Calanque de Sormiou. I liked the color but in low light it didn't pop and looked liked a dark grey blue. Ron and I talked further and he nailed it on the second iteration . The final paint color is a mix of 18% Porsche Venetian Blue Metallic, 18% Ford Guardsman Blue, 28% Nightwatch Blue, and 37% GMC Blue Green Metallic. I'm not going to lie, 37% GM color does hurt a bit! See the reference page for the actual ratios by weight and Ron's contact info.
I had to come up with a name for the color. My wife and I are of Irish descent and we fell in love with Ireland when we visited. The color reminds us of the water around Valentia Island in the picture above. So my paint-to-sample name is Valentia Island Blue.
